Bio-Dynamic and organic Wines better than ever !
The growing demand for environmentally sustainable products has created a boom in the field of clean wines.
A study was conducted by Magali A. Delmas, Olivier Gergaud and Jinghui Lim based on more than 74,000 wine samples labeled as Organic or Bio-dynamic from California that were blind-tasted by three major American wine magazines (Wine Advocate, Wine Enthusiast, Wine Spectator).
Between ecocertification and product quality.
It appeared that while the tasters did not know that the wines were certified organic or bio-dynamic, they ended up scoring them consistently with much higher scores by an average of 4.1 points on a scale of 100.
Is ecocertification associated with quality?
Researchers explain that these results most likely come from the viticultural practices (no usage of fertilizer, pesticide, herbicide, chimical additives or yeast (Merry Edwards for instance...)) thus enhancing the expression of the terroir and of the aromas in the wines. Whatever, a vineyard and a certified wine, has more chance to express the terroir, the grapes and meteorology, than the work of chemists and pharmaceutical laboratories!
The results indicate that the adoption of wine eco certification has a statistically significant and positive effect on wine ratings.
